Improving retinal function through bioelectric stimulation
The i-LUMEN AMD System® uses a proprietary dual waveform of microcurrent stimulation delivered through the eyelid. The therapy is designed to support retinal electrophysiology by boosting transepithial potential across the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) and supporting the regenerative processes for healthy photoreceptor cell function.

Repolarizes RPE cells
Boosting transepithelial potential (TEP), a naturally occurring electrical gradient or polarity, helps improve RPE function.

Increases production of neurotrophic growth factors
Stronger TEP increases production of pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a signaling protein that is critical to the survival of photoreceptor cells and improves various functions within the RPE.

Improves recycling processes of the RPE cells
PEDF activates the processes within RPE to recycle spent photorecptor outer segments to prevent drusen formation and maintain healthy photorecptor cell function.

Improves regenerative processes of the RPE cells
PEDF also supports the regeneration of photo pigment molecules to improve photoreceptor cell light processing and of mitochondria--the energy source for both photoreceptors and RPE cells.

Re-establishes homeostasis of RPE
By restoring retinal electrophysiology and facilitating retinal homeostasis, the i-LUMEN AMD System® has shown to improve photoreceptor response time and visual acuity.

Non-invasive, office-based therapy.
Delivered through the closed eyelid
No dilation required
No intraocular injections
No systemic exposure typically associated with drug therapies

Expanding the treatment paradigm
The i-LUMEN AMD System® is a bioelectric therapy intended to support retinal electrophysiology and function in patients with intermediate to advanced dry AMD.
Our therapy boosts the RPE’s transepithelial potential (TEP), a natural polarity across these cells---a therapeutic outcome that pharmaceutical treatments cannot deliver.
