Our history

Built on decades of research

The scientific foundation for i-Lumen's bioelectric therapy spans more than 30 years of case studies, feasibility research, preclinical investigation, and controlled trials.

1991-1998

Early Clinical Observation

Initial clinical observations informed development of the loading-week treatment regimen and monophasic stimulation algorithm.

1998–2001

Feasibility Study

Early feasibility studies investigated visual function outcomes associated with bioelectric stimulation in retinal disease.

2002–2005

Preclinical Research Studies

Research at Schepens Eye Institute evaluated neuroprotective signaling, photoreceptor survival, and inflammatory pathway modulation.

2014–2024

Open Label Clinical Evaluation Study

Longitudinal clinical evaluation investigated visual acuity outcomes associated with the investigational therapy.

2020–2021

Computational Modeling Study

Modeling studies evaluated current distribution within ocular tissues and polarity effects across RPE cells.

2022–2024

i-SIGHT Study

A multicenter pilot study evaluated safety and visual function outcomes in intermediate to advanced dry AMD.

Looking ahead

Advancing the i-SIGHT2 Pivotal Study

i-Lumen Scientific is advancing the clinical development of the investigational i-LUMEN™ AMD System through the ongoing i-SIGHT2 pivotal study.

The multicenter, randomized, controlled trial is enrolling sites across the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand to further evaluate safety, retinal function, and visual outcomes in patients with intermediate to advanced dry AMD.
