i-Lumen Scientific was founded around the belief that electrophysiology plays a fundamental role in maintaining visual function in those with retinal diseases such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Our scientific approach is informed by two decades of research in the electrophysiology of the retinal pigment epithelium cells (RPE) and its critical role in healthy vision.
We are pioneering the development of bioelectric therapies to improve vision by restoring RPE function and the health of photoreceptors and other neural cells.

Chief Executive Officer
John VeLure is a seasoned medical device executive with a track record of founding, scaling, and successfully exiting medical device companies, primarily in the field of neurostimulation and therapeutic devices. He previously served as President and Founder of Neurotech, a surface neurostimulation company focused on orthopedic applications, which was acquired by Theragen in 2015. Prior to that, he held senior leadership roles at Compex Technologies, a global leader in neurostimulation, where he drove growth of the medical business leading to its acquisition by ReAble Therapeutics, and at American Medtech, where he led sales and marketing for a portfolio of urology devices and played a key role in the company’s sale to Pos-T-Vac. John brings deep expertise in commercialization, strategic positioning, and transaction execution, with a consistent focus on building scalable platforms and creating shareholder value.
VP, Clinical Research
Meredith Mundy is an experienced clinical operations leader with more than 20 years of operational and clinical research experience, including over a decade focused on early-stage medical device clinical program development. She has led the design and execution of clinical programs across a range of technologies, including neurostimulation, ENT therapies, software-driven systems, and implantable devices, supporting regulatory submissions and post-market evidence generation. She brings deep expertise in trial execution, regulatory strategy, and operational scalability, with a focus on efficiently advancing clinical assets from early feasibility through commercialization.
VP, Global Commercialization
Josh Smith is a senior healthcare executive with more than 25 years of experience in ophthalmology and optometry across global pharmaceutical organizations and venture-backed startups. He has led commercial teams, global product launches, physician engagement, and go-to-market strategies across retina, ophthalmology, and optometric networks. His experience spans clinical development, trial enrollment, and commercialization across the United States, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.
